BİGADİÇ KASIMPAŞA MOSQUE

Commissioned in 1549 by Vizier Kasım Paşa, this historic mosque has undergone significant alterations over time. Its original semi-open late-congregation portico (son cemaat mahalli) has since been enclosed, and its facades, now plastered and painted, are crowned with a pitched roof featuring corbelled eaves.
The property, which is owned by the Directorate General of Foundations, became the subject of a preservation initiative after archival research successfully identified its original architectural qualities. Based on these findings, a strategic decision was made to preserve the structure by removing its non-original and poor-quality additions.
In this context, a high-precision architectural survey was conducted using 3D laser scanning and advanced photogrammetry. The restitution project was then developed based on the extensive archival research and comparative studies. Finally, the restoration project was conceptualized to reinstate the building's historical integrity with a modern approach. The complete suite of survey, restitution, and restoration projects has been approved by the relevant Regional Cultural Heritage Conservation Board.
