SELMA DENİZ HOUSE

This privately-owned building, located in Karaağaç Village in the Gömeç district of Balıkesir, is a fine surviving example of traditional residential architecture. The structure consists of two stories (a ground floor and one upper floor) over a partial basement. It is currently in a state of partial ruin, with its roof structure completely lost and the wooden staircase that provided vertical circulation between the floors also partially missing.
Given its condition, an advanced documentation approach was employed. A high-precision architectural survey was conducted by combining 3D terrestrial LiDAR technology (laser scanner) with drone photogrammetry techniques.
Based on this comprehensive digital data, the restitution project was developed through extensive historical research and comparative studies of analogous traditional residences in the region. The final restoration project was then conceptualized with a modern approach that is profoundly respectful of the building's authentic character and historical significance.
The complete suite of survey, restitution, and restoration projects has been approved by the relevant Regional Conservation Board.
