THE YONCALI ALAADDİN HAMMAM

Constructed in the 13th century with a rubble stone masonry system, the Yoncalı Alaaddin Hamamı in Kütahya is a double bathhouse (çifte hamam). The structure comprises four main sections: the men's and women's changing rooms (soyunmalık) and hot rooms (sıcaklık). Its roof structure features a combination of domes and a pitched roof, and its facade is notable for the use of spolia (reused architectural elements).
A high-precision architectural survey of the building was conducted using 3D terrestrial LiDAR scanning and advanced photogrammetry. Based on this detailed digital data, the restitution project was developed through extensive historical research and comparative studies of analogous structures from the period. The restoration project was then conceptualized with a modern approach that is profoundly respectful of the structure's historical and cultural integrity.
The complete suite of survey, restitution, and restoration projects has been approved by the Kütahya Cultural Heritage Conservation Board.
