YÖRÜKKARACAÖREN MOSQUE

This 19th-century mosque, a cultural heritage asset owned by the Directorate General of Foundations, is located in the Yörükkaracaören Village of Bolvadin, Afyonkarahisar. The single-volume structure is architecturally defined by its timber posts, a wooden ceiling, and an earthen roof, and notably lacks a minaret. Its originally open late-congregation portico (son cemaat mahalli) was enclosed at a later date.
The project commenced with a high-precision architectural survey, utilizing 3D laser scanning and advanced photogrammetry. The subsequent restitution phase was grounded in detailed historical research and comparative studies of analogous rural mosques to determine its original architectural character. Based on this research, a restoration project was conceptualized with a modern approach that is profoundly respectful of the building's historical and cultural significance. The complete suite of survey, restitution, and restoration projects has been prepared.
